This little girl was left in China this past week by her adoptive family who traveled to China in late July full of all the hope and excitement that surrounds bringing a new child home. While in China they found out that she had tested positive for TB several months before. She has been treated for two months and has no symptoms. But because of new CDC policies on TB, which are geared toward keeping TB-infected immigrants from entering the US, they were not allowed to bring Harper home. After trying to fight this battle for several weeks, both parents had to return home this past week in order to keep their jobs and to care for their son. The video of the dad leaving Harper is long but so heartbreaking.
They along with other adoptive families are trying to ammend the CDC policies for adoptive children. You can follow their story here. On their blog there are a list of ways that YOU can help prevent this from happening again and there is a petition to sign here.
Most orphaned children have already gone through so much trauma already in their short lives. It is NOT acceptable for them to be faced with further trauma.
